During the Ore War the Union was forced to evolve into a nation that heavily industrialised the manufacture of weapons and engines of war to produce them at an unmatched rate. As conflict was largely on land, the Union fleets remained significantly underpowered compared to their rivals. With a belief in manifest destiny, the Union began to look beyond their own borders. It was easy to imagine the greedy faces of the other power blocs and the Union's age old nemesis, The Crown, regarding this upstart American colony with avaricious eyes. To establish their rightful place, the Union focused on developing and constructing a fleet of ships to defend their shores and support their troops as they consolidated their positions around the globe.

The Constitution Class Battleship is now the mainstay of the Union Fleet, the first twelve of these impressive vessels built in the closing years of the Ore War. Their main purpose was traversing the many wide rivers of the nation and rain fire on Confederate defences, or to assist in troop movement, their powerful paddlewheels are equally suited to the open seas. Now they, and many more like them, ensure that the Federated States can achieve their manifest destiny.

Supporting the Constitution Class Battleships are squadrons of frontline cruisers built to withstand direct engagement with enemy fleets. The Yorktown, Intrepid, Reliant and Lexington Class Cruisers all boast powerful paddle wheels allowing them to remain agile under fire all the while raining shells upon their enemies. These ships are in turn supported by the ever vigilant Akron Observers. These rotors watch both the skies and the waves for sign of threats to their squadrons as well as acting as long range observers for the gun crews on board the ships.

Farragut Frigates are also a common addition to any Union fleet. These small but manoeuvrable vessels are able to make fast raids against enemy squadrons or in even greater numbers, larger vessels such as Battleships.

The Golgotha is a massively powerful beast. Made of stone and powered by the Vatican's magicks, a Summoner Priest binds the construct and helps to direct it over the course of a battle.

The Echo class corvette is a small, atmospheric-capable vessel of sub-frigate tonnage designed to prow the atmosphere for vulnerable prey, such as strike carriers. Armed with a heavy missile payload, the Echo is adept at decimating the larger targets which it hunts. It is also armed with a pair of mass drivers buried within its streamlined hull, making it a threat to enemy ships at range when fighting in the void. In combination, this makes the Echo more heavily armed than any equivalent ship of another race.

It is also rare among PHR ships in that it is designed with stealth in mind. This means that Echo's can fire some of their weapons while silent running, making them capable void operators due to their mass driver armament, which can be fired at ranges from which the enemy cannot hope to return fire.

Although the Resistance does operate corvettes, very few survived the Scourge invasion. Being designed to operate from atmosphere, they were the very furthest ships from any jump point and had to face the first waves of Scourge corvettes and Strike Carriers. Those that did escape were generally forced to withdraw early on due to combat damage.

However, such small ships require modest orbital slips to construct. As a result of the obvious need to protect their Strike Carriers, many Resistance fleets with the resources have attempted to build new ones, with mixed success. Certainly, the Vega Scrapfleet has proved capable, and of course Kalium builds these hunter-killers in large quantities. The Munifex is a fairly typical corvette – fast, atmospheric-capable and designed to kill Strike Carriers, as well as their opposite numbers. It is armed with specialist missiles, much like the UCM’s Santiago class.

This set contains 6 Resistance Corvettes. These diminutive ships are some of the smallest available to Resistance commanders. Armed with NCA-1 Missiles, these Close Action weapons are excellent at fighting in atmosphere, and get more powerful the more you shoot, thanks to the Squadron-3 special rule.

A parasitic race, the Scourge arrived on Earth 150 years ago. They hit humanity’s home and the Cradle Worlds hard, destroying or enslaving billions of souls within mere hours of planetfall. One lone Scourge is an unformidable opponent, existing as a mass of tar-like black tendrils, barely able to lift its own weight. However, they insert themselves into living creatures and their grown vehicles alike, their limbs stretching out to cover every nerve, fully taking control of their host.

The Scourge army is made up of such creatures; part living, and part machine. Scourge weaponry is far advanced of UCM technology, burning attackers with plasma and electricity.

The army is led by a Commander in a Despot. This bizarre walker leads small Scourge forces, and uses its Micro Subjugation Field to slow down opponents, making them easy prey. It’s taken to battle in an Intruder for fast entry and repositioning.
